Clogged Toilets

If your toilet clogs, avoid flushing again, as it could worsen the situation. Assess the severity of the clog; if it's minor, try using a plunger with a tight seal around the drain to dislodge the blockage. Be cautious not to damage the porcelain.

Remember, preventive measures like regular cleaning and proper waste disposal can help avoid future clogs.

Drain / Sink Clogs

If your sink or shower clogs, first attempt to clear it using a plunger.

For sinks, try removing the pop-up assembly or P-trap beneath the sink to manually remove debris.

In showers, remove the drain cover and use a tool to pull out hair and other obstructions. Many hardware stores sell a cheap plastic tool that you can fish into the drain to pull any hair and other trapped debris out.

If these DIY methods fail, consider using a chemical drain cleaner, but handle them carefully and follow instructions closely. Alternatively, mix baking soda and vinegar and pour it down the drain, followed by hot water.

If the clog persists, submit a repair request.

If you lose electrical power, first check if the outage is localized or widespread. Next, inspect your circuit breaker panel or fuse box for tripped breakers or blown fuses. Reset tripped breakers or replace blown fuses cautiously.

If the outage persists, contact your utility provider to report the issue and inquire about estimated restoration times. Keep flashlights, batteries, and a battery-powered radio handy for communication and illumination. Avoid opening the refrigerator or freezer unnecessarily to conserve perishable items. If needed, seek alternative accommodation or arrangements.

If you don't have hot water in your rental, locate your water heater and check the settings; verify that everything looks correct and the pilot light is lit (if your water heater is gas-powered).

If you do make any changes to the temperature controls on the heater, wait 15 to 20 minutes before testing the water again.

If your HVAC system isn't working, begin by checking the thermostat settings to ensure they're correctly configured for heating or cooling. Replace the batteries in the thermostat if necessary.

Verify that the circuit breaker or fuse controlling the HVAC system hasn't tripped or blown. Inspect air filters for dirt or clogs, replacing them if dirty. Ensure all vents and registers are open and unobstructed.
